I fucking rhymed and you loved it. Don’t lie to me.
Let’s talk about food for a moment. As always, I’ll start with a little story. Back in the day, maybe 40 or 60 years ago, I was a young lass in the thick of London trying to make ends meet. Without tuppence to my name.
I was a dancer who regularly binged on orange soda, smarties, and anything that had bread attached to it. Preferably bread and chocolate. Like, you know, a decadent pain au chocolat. Or something.
A lot of cheese was also involved.
I was notorious for burning water in microwaves and my signature dish was baked beans on toast with cheese.
I had no idea about anything.
10 to 100 odd years later and I’ve fallen in love with food. I have jars and jars full of whole grains, beans, legumes, and nuts. I make my own clarified butter monthly, my own cashew yogurt weekly, and my own nut milk daily.
What changed? It was a slow and arduous process but to cut it down to brass tax, there was this one article I read about the shit that’s in our food.
That’s the technical term they used.
After reading that it came down to this –
I WANTED TO HAVE CONTROL OVER WHAT WENT IN MY BODY.
I would link you to the article but I have no idea where it is. I think it was something I had been brewing over for a while and that article merely clicked everything into place.
IT WAS EXHILARATING.
Okay, now the big question is
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO EAT CLEAN.
I’m going to give you the most parred down definition you will ever have feasted your eyes on.
clean eatingadjective \ˈklēn\eating
: free from GMO’s, chemicals, additives, preservatives, etc. : not dirty
: tending to keep clean
There are a lot of other versions of what CLEAN EATING is, but the one I go by is this. It’s simple, it’s uncomplicated, and it’s not telling me anything else other than
READ THE LABELS. DON’T EAT CHEMICALS. AND COOK AT HOME MORE.
There is a little bit more eduMAcating (because that’s how it’s suppose to be said) needed to understand exactly what no processing and additives means. But it’s not much, and honestly don’t let that
OHEMGEE I DON’T WANT TO THINK ABOUT ANY OF THIS.
Mindset overtake you.
Think of it this way…
Most people today incorporate exercise as a part of their daily lives. Whether it’s to get out and walk more, run, hike, or bike. Some people go to gyms, they circuit train, lift weights, go to jazzercise classes, yoga classes, pilates classes, cycling classes, etc;.
Really, the possibilities are endless.
But the key is, you do these things because they make you feel good. Whether it’s because on the outside you feel lighter or because on the inside you feel ROCKING.
Naturally, by adding these elements to your daily life you have learned a thing or two. Without knowing it you’re more savvy on how your body should be aligned during plank, what’s easiest on your knees while running, and the best form for a push up.
You know this because you have been doing it. You’ve been unconsciously listening to what your trainers, teachers, and friends have been advising.
And well, it just naturally sunk in.
YOUR FOOD SHOULD MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD, FEEL LOVED, HEAL YOU, FEED YOU, AND MOST OF ALL IT SHOULD MAKE YOU THRIVE.
I eat clean because it makes me feel like I am treating my body with the same amount of care as I treat my loved ones.
I invite you to experiment with what makes you feel strong, beautiful, powerful, and confident. I invite you to find exactly what works best with your body, to trial and error the foods that help you thrive. I invite you to eat clean and than come back to me and tell me why that didn’t work for you. I invite you to consciously be aware of what you’re putting in your body and to love every ounce of it.
I INVITE YOU TO HAVE A LOVE AFFAIR WITH YOUR BODY.
