We just scoffed down Thanksgiving and it feels like the food, the wine, the warm ciders and chilled ales, steaming pies topped with fresh whipped creams, and night after night of friendsgiving, family thanksgiving, second thanksgiving, THIRD thanksgiving, holiday party, work holiday party, multi-friends holiday parties, the 8 days of hanukkah, christmas eve, christmas day, new years eve, new years day… and, nope I think that’s actually it.
It’s the best time of year and yet probably the worst time of year for your digestion.
And now, it’s all suddenly over and we are looking at 2017 with new, el bait, slightly full eyes.
You feel warm and fuzzy but also full, bloated, and heavy. I don’t know about you but for the longest time I came to accept this as the norm for winter, it was just what my body felt like during these long winter months.
But over the past year I’ve concocted ways to make my tummy a little happier, while still enjoying all the scrumptious food the holidays, new year, and winter brings…
hot water and lemon
This is pretty basic and probably one of the best things you can do for your tummy in the mornings. I’m notorious for sipping coffee first thing in the morning, I don’t want anything but that great bitter taste entering my system. However, prioritizing just a few sips of hot water with lemon while my coffee is brewing has honestly changed my world.
Ginger anything really, if tea doesn’t do it for you then throw some ginger in with your sautees, nom on some candied ginger, drink some juice with ginger added too it. Any way you can add ginger into your diet, your digestion will thank you. If you don’t have a juicer at home, I love getting the little bottles of ginger that Ginger People sell. I’ll put a tablespoon of that, some honey, and hot water and sip on it nearing the end of the day.
apple cider vinegar and water
Apple cider vinegar is a weird lovely beast. It smells super odd and can be used for a variety things but the moment I feel my health or digestion getting all wacky – if I chug down a glass of water with 2 tablespoons of this shit added? I immediately feel better. Well, I usually make a gross face first and THEN feel better but still… same dif – my favorite brand is Braggs – always make sure that which ever brand you buy though you’re getting the kind with the ‘mother’ in it.
That’s it for now. Super simple, super easy, and gives your tummy a little extra love to balance out some of the extra scrumptious things you put in it these last few months.
I’ll be keeping up with these little bevvies throughout the month, in hopes to get myself in a good digestible swing for the new year. Not to sound cliche or anything, but… join me?
That may have come off as sounding desperate but I don’t give a fuck, I want to digest the CRAP outta this upcoming year.
